Mozart/Salieri

A musical rivalry and friendship comes alive with Mozart’s Jeunehomme Concerto with pianist Hoang Pham and Salieri’s La Veneziana symphony.
As any script writer or gossip magazine editor will tell you, a rivalry is much more entertaining than a friendship. So it is with the two composers Mozart and Salieri, whose relationship was mostly warm and collegial, despite film portrayals to the contrary.
On the Mozart side, the lighthearted Symphony No.28, and the Jeunehomme concerto, performed with one of Australia’s leading pianists, Hoang Pham. On the Salieri side, an Australian premiere of an opera overture and his La Veneziana symphony.
Melbourne Chamber Orchestra will also premiere an intriguing MCO commission by Victorian composer Louisa Trewartha, for double bass and string orchestra. MCO Principal Bass Emma Sullivan performs the solo.

Join us at Karen Martini’s HERO and ACMI for your Light and Dine Experience. Light: Works from Tate's Collection. Curated by Tate in the UK and drawn from their prestigious collection, the exhibition celebrates ground breaking moments from over 200 years of art history, and the artists who harnessed this elemental force through painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, installation and the moving image. You will receive your exhibition tickets at the restaurant.
